Courage & Choices: Kabita's story and the power of the girl
In October 2023, just after Kabita passed her 10th exam, her family arranged for her marriage at the age of 17. Despite her parents, uncle, and aunt finding what they considered a "good boy and family," Kabita knew something was wrong.
She had attended a Safe Village Program and learned about the dangers and illegality of child marriage earlier on. Empowered by this life-saving knowledge, Kabita bravely refused her family's proposal, firmly stating that she wanted to continue her studies.
The Role of Our Heroes in Change
Kabita's personal heroism was supported by the community safety net you build. She immediately reached out to a trusted figure: Ratan, a Nodal Teacher.
Knowing the critical nature of the situation, Ratan quickly approached Kabita's parents. It wasn't an easy conversation; it took repeated sessions with the Nodal teacher before her family was finally convinced and allowed Kabita to pursue her education.
Her brave action, combined with the the knowledge she gained through the Safe Village Program, secured her future. Although she lost a year, Kabita is now happily studying again. Her life has been saved, proving that through your dedication, we actively facilitate change in communities.
