Children Take the Lead for a Safe Village – Munguwadi, Kolhapur, Maharashtra
It was a dream for us to think of children taking the lead in the Safe Village Program, walking through the streets with placards that read “No Child Labour,” “Stop Domestic Violence,” and “Prevent Human Trafficking.”
But believe me, this really happened in the village of Munguwadi in Kolhapur district, Maharashtra.
My Choices Foundation, along with our local partner, had organised a Safe Village Program in the local school. Their excitement was contagious! I had never seen an entire school so alive, every child so involved.
Then suddenly, something amazing happened — all the children came together, formed a procession, and holding placards high, began shouting slogans: “Let’s keep the village safe! Let’s keep the village safe!”
Accompanied by their teachers, they marched out of the school and onto the streets of the village. It was a wonderful sight to behold — a dream come true. The children themselves were leading the movement, spreading powerful messages of safety and awareness through their voices and actions.
After returning to the school, the children gathered in the hall for a session using comic books and a short film. Later, they assembled outdoors to perform a fantastic play they had prepared themselves. The dialogues were clear, the acting confident, and every child in the audience was fully engaged.
The villagers were surprised and deeply moved — their own children had become ambassadors of safety and change.
